Success with complete process chains at world’s leading composites trade fair

Fill Machine Engineering impressed at JEC World 2022 in Paris with the very latest technologies in the field of composites. From the fiber to the tested finished component, Fill presented unique, cost-effective, and innovative machining concepts.

Fill’s product launch of „XARION Laser Acoustics“ within the framework of the non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection process was an absolute highlight at the JEC World 2022 trade fair, which took place in Paris from May 3 to 5. The Upper Austrian machine engineering experts presented another sensational innovation in the form of the ROBOT LAYUP flexible production cell for laying and preforming pre-impregnated composite materials (prepregs). After a three-year break, the mood among the many international visitors at the world’s leading composites trade fair was extremely positive.

Gurten, May 16, 2022 – „The trend towards thermoplastic composites is gathering pace. Demand has been strong for the machining concepts encompassed by the MULTILAYER high-performance laying system, especially from representatives of the aviation industry. The great interest shown in our XARION Laser Acoustics in the field of NDT inspection technology was also very pleasing. Numerous discussions with partners and interested parties confirm that this technology has huge potential for the aviation industry,“ says Wilhelm Rupertsberger, Head of the Plastics Competence Center at Fill, about the initial impressions from Paris.

New projects
As a technology-oriented specialist machine engineering company and systems integrator, Fill has earned an excellent reputation internationally. Alongside potential orders from the aviation industry, an interesting new project in the wind power sector also opened up for the Upper Austrian company at JEC World. In this area, Fill can already refer to extensive preliminary developments in the automation of rotor blades and contribute significant experience and expertise.

End-to-end automation
With the development of the ROBOT LAYUP production cell, Fill has succeeded in developing a system for laying and preforming impregnated composite materials that is precise and economical in equal measure. The MULTILAYER – from the 3D model to the laid stack – was also a focus of attention, particularly from the aviation sector. Multiple parts can be produced simultaneously with this high-performance laying system. The optimized tape width ensures a huge reduction in waste, while minimizing downtimes. It is programmed conveniently and straightforwardly using the TAPE STUDIO software developed by Fill. „JEC 2022 in Paris was well worth the trip. We were able to welcome not only many existing customers and partners, but also numerous new customers, to our exhibition stand. The reunion in person with our friends from the international composites industry was a great pleasure for everyone involved,“ says Wilhelm Rupertsberger, who is more than satisfied with the successful trade fair appearance.
